Bill Wandel’s screenplay, Spaz Fu takes 1st place in the 2010 PAGE Awards international screenwriting competition!
Spaz Fu was awarded the gold prize (1st place) in the family film category. Over 4,400 scripts entered the contest this year and the judging took place over a period of seven months. The PAGE Awards have become one of the most important sources in the industry for discovering new screenwriting talent.
“I’m pretty much dumbfounded at the contest results. Spaz Fu is my sixth feature screenplay. I think the thought processes composers go through everyday are very similar to those of screenwriters. The vocabulary is just different. All the work I’ve done studying plot, character and style from a writer’s perspective has made me an infinitely better film composer.”
Spaz Fu is the story of a lonely teenage girl who tries to boost the confidence of the bullied new-boy-in-town by teaching him kung fu. Problem is, she’s making it all up as she goes.
Judge’s comments: – a fresh funny concept – a new twist on “The Karate Kid.” Clever and inventive. Great cast of teen characters. Cool teen dialogue. Loved this script!
